A Million Copies and Counting… Irish Independent 26th May 2004
'Oltech is the Dublin-based specialist firm chosen by Eircom'

Even a moment's thought will tell any business person that six months of political and bureaucratic meetings is going to require a heck of a lot of photocopying! Never mind all of the wonderful things that word processing and PCs can do. At events like this people are going to revert to the tried and trusted – walk up to the copier and run off another set of copies with the agenda, revisions, notes, etc. For some of the minority languages, copying is essential because standard PCs and Microsoft applications do not yet cater for their character sets. The course of our EU Presidency involves about 250 scheduled meetings here in Dublin – and all over the country – so providing delegates, media and all participants with photocopying facilities was high on the Eircom list when the technical team was planning the technology infrastructure. In fact an equally 'old fashioned' technology was also high on the priority list. Fax is still a major channel of communications, and not just for our friends in the New 10 or Class of 2004, regarded as simple to use, secure and reliable.

Oltech is the Dublin-based specialist firm chosen by Eircom as the contract partner for photocopiers and fax machines, both to supply and to manage at all locations for the duration of the Presidency. According to Oltech Sales and Marketing Director Sandy Miller, at the very first meeting in Dublin Castle, the head of the Italian delegation walked out from a session in search of a photocopier to be greeted by a line of gleaming new state-of-the-art Olivetti machines – to his total patriotic delight! "We supplied over 50 top range, digital multi-function Olivetti systems, all high volume 25 to 55 pages per minute units," says Sandy Miller. That represents about € 0.5 million in terms of capital equipment and they are being well used in all locations. At time of going to press the total number of copies made had passed the one million mark and was still steadily climbing.

There are 300 new Samsung plain paper fax machines supplied for the needs of the delegates and media which, like the copiers, were needed at over temporary 50 locations. Dublin Castle, the Royal Hospital and Farmleigh are the only permanent locations. Between technicians, transport and logistics, administrative and other staff, 15 Oltech staff have been involved daily in running the contract. "The logistics were more of a challenge than anything technical," explains Sandy Miller. "Meetings lasted for one to three days, all over the country, and the machines had to be delivered and installed, installed and commissioned then collected – sometimes immediately after a meeting – and then on to the next location. Our Corporate Events Manager Ben McHugh has huge experience of this sort of thing, but the intensity was new. Once he had to travel from Dublin to Limerick to oversee the setting up, on to Killarney, then Cork and Waterford – within 36 hours!

Oltech is the Irish distributor for Olivetti, Samsung and Nashua and supports an installed base of over 30,000 machines. It has over a decades' experience of organizing copying, fax and other technology for special events, from MTV Europe Awards to golf championships, exhibitions, major pop concerts and the Special Olympics.

OLTECH-OLIVETTI: MTV contract success

30/10/2003

Ireland's successful office products partnership company, Oltech-Olivetti have recently been confirmed as the official supplier of all office equipment (Olivetti fax, printers and copiers) to be used by MTV Europe at their Annual Awards Ceremony which is scheduled to take place in Edinburgh, Scotland on 6th November.  The value of the equipment needed in the run-up to the event and for the show itself will be approximately 45,000 euros.

The MTV Europe Awards are without doubt the highest profile music industry related awards show in Europe if not worldwide.  Artists confirmed to appear at the 2003 event include Kylie Minogue, Christine Aguilera, Beyoncé Knowles, Travis, The Chemical Brothers, Sean Paul, The Flaming Lips, Dido and Pink. With the show being broadcast live to well over 1 billion viewers around the world it is the Music Industry equivalent to the Oscars. All of the industry's top performers attend the show and everyone who is anyone wants to be seen there.  Rumours abound that a surprise appearance will be made by the hugely popular Robbie Williams, a winner in several previous years and who is nominated in no less than three categories this time around.

Oltech-Olivetti first won the contract to be the official supplier of office equipment for the MTV Awards 5 years ago when the event was staged at Dublin Point (Ireland's Premier Promotional Arena) which was hosted by the extraordinarily talented Ronan Keating.  Since then Oltech-Olivetti have successfully supplied the equipment for the show when held in Sweden, Germany, Spain, and now in Scotland with the assistance of the Olivetti subsidiaries and Dealers in each country.
